Mosaic Provides One Million Meals

The Mosaic Company and its 7,500 worldwide employees celebrated its fifth anniversary by donating more than one million meals to organizations around the world that help alleviate hunger. Mosaic employees collected more than 15,000 pounds of nonperishable food items, and the company made financial contributions of more than $250,000. Mosaic's donations will provide meals to organizations in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, India and the United States.

"Over the past five years Mosaic has consistently delivered on its mission of helping the world grow the food it needs, and this mission will drive us for the years well into the future," said Jim Prokopanko, Mosaic's President and Chief Executive Officer. "As we commemorate our fifth anniversary, this donation of one million meals is a tangible and significant way to give back to our global communities."

According to a recent survey by Feeding America, the global financial crisis has had a profound impact on the number individuals needing emergency food assistance. The average increase in demand across the Feeding America network from summer 2008 to summer 2009 was 30 percent, and 99 percent of all food banks reported an increase in demand over the last year.

"Clearly the global economic crisis has significantly increased the number of individuals and first-time users of food banks, and this has put a tremendous stress on the reserves and resources that Feeding America and other food banks can offer," said Pat Rogers, Executive Director at America's Second Harvest of Tampa Bay. "For the Mosaic Company and its employees to commemorate their fifth anniversary by providing more than one million meals worldwide is a tremendous gift and commitment to alleviating worldwide hunger."

October 25 marked the fifth anniversary of Mosaic shares trading publicly on the New York Stock Exchange. In five years, Mosaic has emerged as one of the world’s leading producers and marketers of concentrated phosphate and potash, two of the primary nutrients required to grow the food the world needs. The company's customer base includes wholesalers, retail dealers and individual growers in more than 40 countries.
