Mosaic Sponsors Green Futures Expo & Energy Options Conference
This event, presented by Charlotte County’s Building Construction Services and Economic Development Office, attracted hundreds of attendees, and featured speakers from leading energy companies and dozens of “green” exhibitors, including Mosaic which has earned industry-wide recognition as one of the largest renewable energy producers in Florida, generating enough “clean and green” energy to power 100,000 homes. Other examples of how Mosaic is maximizing energy efficiency and being environmentally conscious include:• Recycling over 95% of the water used at our mining facilities and 90% at all Florida facilities combined.
• Constructing a new Florida headquarters building that is on track to be gold certified by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2010.
• Partnering with the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority on the Horse Creek Stewardship Program, a monitoring and data collecting program which demonstrates that Mosaic’s mining operations are not adversely impacting downstream water quality in Horse Creek, a major tributary to the Peace River.
• Allocating nearly 15,000 acres of property as perpetual conservation easements, guaranteeing these areas will remain natural habitats for future generations.
• Successfully reclaiming mined land for use as wetlands, lakes, uplands, wildlife habitats, housing developments, agriculture, industrial sites, power plants, landfills, pasture lands, parks, golf courses and pine tree plantations.
