Mosaic Announces Home Runs for Food Partnership

“Mosaic’s core mission is helping the world grow the food it needs.  Home Runs for Food is a natural extension of that mission and will help ensure nourishment is available to those in the community who need it most,” said Bo Davis, Mosaic Vice President of Phosphate Operations.  “This program builds upon Mosaic’s already strong relationships and shared values with these outstanding organizations.”

Home Runs for Food will complement Mosaic’s prior commitments to Feeding America. To mark its 5th anniversary, Mosaic contributed $250,000 and more than 25,000 pounds of food to Feeding America last October.  The donation helped provide more than a million meals to hungry families across the globe.

“Strong corporate partnerships, like these, are vital to Feeding America’s ability to perform its mission of feeding hungry families in our 10 county region,” said Pat Rogers, Executive Director of Feeding America Tampa Bay.  “Home Runs for Food will help us generate more than 300,000 meals right here in the Tampa Bay area.”

According to a 2009 USDA report on food insecurity, one in six Americans is at risk of hunger.  From 2007 to 2008, the number of Americans considered food insecure increased by 13 million people.  Feeding America is annually providing food to 37 million Americans, including 14 million children.  In Tampa Bay, Feeding America provides food for more than 409,000 residents each year.

Mosaic is committed to investing in the communities where we operate.  Each year, Mosaic contributes more than $5 million to Florida charitable organizations including Feeding America, United Way, Florida Audubon Society and other environmental, agricultural, educational and human service organizations.
