Community Investment in Action: Mosaic Supports Relief Work in Haiti
Mosaic’s donation of $125,000 paid for the deployment of an American Refugee Committee (ARC) relief team and the transportation of supplies to a medical clinic in Haiti. About 2,000 Haitians are being treated at the clinic—one of the few fully operable field hospitals in the area. The clinic has performed an average of 30 amputations a day since the earthquake occurred, and had run out of basic supplies such as anesthesia and chlorine until the Mosaic shipment arrived. The ARC team has also constructed temporary shelters for the injured and their families, created a security cordon for women and children and given displaced Haitians paid employment working with the ARC team. By helping them help themselves, the team is supporting efforts to restore the personal dignity of the survivors, replacing helplessness with purpose.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
--Margaret Mead
