Mosaic Implements Hurricane Preparation Plan at All Facilities
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a Tropical Storm Warning associated with Hurricane Matthew for Polk County and is predicting anywhere from 4-7 inches of rainfall. Mosaic is actively monitoring the hurricane and has implemented the company’s extensive hurricane preparation plan at all of its facilities.
The recovery well at New Wales is currently maintaining a pumping rate of 3,500 gallons per minute (GPM) and back-up generators are on site in case a power loss is experienced. The pumping rate is not expected to be impacted by the weather.
Walt Precourt, Mosaic’s Senior Vice President - Phosphates Mosaic said, “We are confident that any rainwater that mixes with the water we are recovering from the sinkhole will be recovered throughout normal recovery operations.”
Please note: For safety purposes, ECT will suspend all well sampling activities tomorrow. The regular testing schedule is expected to resume on Saturday.
Daily Well Testing Update
As of today, Mosaic has received 930 well water test requests. Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc. (ECT) is prioritizing testing based on neighbor’s proximity to the New Wales facility. Neighbors who have requested an alternative means of testing are encouraged to receive a water test at no cost from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
