One of Mosaic's largest philanthropic commitments is to the United Way through campaigns in all U.S. locations and Colonsay, Saskatchewan. The United Way is a national organization dedicated to helping communities by supporting organizations focused on education, income and health. The annual campaign is operated jointly by the company's Florida and Plymouth, Minnesota, facilities. In its first four years as a company, Mosaic employees pledged more than $5 million to the United Way, with the company matching dollar for dollar for a total of $10 million.

Each facility creates and executes a campaign that reaches out to employees and helps raise awareness of the United Way's mission. It is Mosaic's vision to make an impact in the communities in which we operate, and an important way we do that is through our support of the United Way.

In 2008, more than 3,500 Mosaic employees donated $1.5 million, and adding the company match, Mosaic's contribution totaled $3 million. Employee participation was 76%, with two Louisiana facilities having 100% employee participation.

As a result of our commitment to the United Way, we have received awards recognizing our support. Mosaic's Florida operation received the Spirit of Tampa Award for the third year in a row, given to companies in the greater Tampa Bay area that exhibit an exceptional spirit of philanthropy, volunteerism and community commitment.

In Carlsbad, New Mexico, the United Way of Carlsbad and South Eddy County recognized Mosaic in 2009 as the top corporate contributor to the local chapter for the fifth year in a row. The most recent campaign generated an increase of over 45% from Mosaic's contribution level last year. More than 85% of Mosaic's local employees contributed.

Mosaic's corporate office in Plymouth was the recipient of the Best in Show Award for the second time in four years from the Greater Twin Cities United Way. The award, based on Mosaic's overall campaign, included a 33% increase in employee donations and a 15% increase in average pledge per person.
