Helping Farmers To Be Efficient

In addition to protecting our natural resources at our mining and fertilizer operations, we also work to promote good environmental stewardship practices on the farms where our fertilizer is used.

Mosaic's investments in agronomic services — as well as research and development — are designed to help our dealers and farmers grow the food the world needs more efficiently. Our agronomy network includes 25 agronomists in 10 countries. They conduct training, write crop production articles, conduct field research, test new ideas and share fertility management information with farmers and dealers. By implementing best management practices, farmers can sustainably increase crop yields and profits and the environment is better protected.

Our work with effective nutrient management practices extends to the 4R nutrient stewardship system we have implemented working with The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) and the 4R nutrient stewardship system. The 4R nutrient stewardship system ensures that the right source (or product) is applied at the right rate at the right time in the right place. The system is directly connected to the goals of sustainable development — the system helps increase the amount of food produced on a given acre, which helps conserve forest and unfarmed wilderness. The system also helps manage nutrient applications to prevent nutrient losses that might otherwise degrade water and air quality. When a farmer applies the right nutrients in the right place, at the right rate, and at the right time, there will be less nutrient runoff into water bodies.

According to The Fertilizer Institute, with help from the 4R nutrient stewardship program, farmers are now using fertilizer nutrients with the greatest efficiency in history.
