Our Commitment to Sustainability

Our Commitment to Sustainability

As one of the world's largest suppliers of phosphate and potash — essential crop nutrients — Mosaic understands that we have a responsibility to help the world's farmers effectively use our products to grow the food the world needs.

To sustain global food production at increasingly high levels, it is critical that we achieve our mission while protecting and enhancing the communities and environments in which we operate.

Our values of integrity, excellence, sustainability and connectivity define how we conduct our business, how we interact with each other and how we treat our communities and our planet.

We achieve our mission – to help the world grow the food it needs – through a strategic approach to business management and operations that:

  • Improves the systems and processes we use to manufacture our crop nutrients and industrial and feed products
  • Engages our employees to participate in continuous improvement strategies and activities
  • Enhances the communities we serve through tangible social, economic and environmental contributions that lead to positive outcomes
  • Supports farmers' interests in making long-term continuous improvements in their own agriculture production

To accomplish our mission, we have adopted six principles to guide our decisions and actions:

Six Principles That Define Mosaic's Commitment to Sustainability

  1. Investing in our people. As our highest priority, we are deeply committed to our employees' health, safety, training and professional development. We are known for our respect for diversity and for our accountability in employee health and safety performance – most specifically, for our relentless pursuit of an injury-free workplace. Our focus on environmental stewardship and community partnerships help ensure that we are an employer of choice.
  2. Ensuring environmental stewardship for responsible land and natural resource use. We are committed to meeting or exceeding rigorous environmental standards in land, water, air, and natural habitat use, starting at the point of production and moving all the way through our value chain.
  3. Applying effective agronomic principles to help meet increasing food demands. We use agronomic principles to optimize fertilizer and soil management and effectively produce essential nutrients that help farmers grow more high quality food, feed, fiber and bioenergy, allowing them to successfully meet the world's growing demands on agriculture.
  4. Improving economic opportunity. We invest in people, our operations, and our communities to promote positive outcomes and opportunities in the communities where we operate.
  5. Managing our business operations and supply chain with integrity. We manage our mining operations, fertilizer and animal feed manufacturing and supply chain with an objective to meet or exceed regulatory requirements and deliver optimum efficiency, productivity, and quality.
  6. Leading with excellence. We keep our promises to ensure we continue to build a high performance company that creates value for all of our employees and other stakeholders. We honor our responsibilities to our employees, customers, business partners and the communities in which we work.
