Mosaic is committed to being a careful steward of the environment. An important part of that stewardship is reflected in our reclamation efforts.
One of our longstanding efforts was the establishment of the Bird Island Sanctuary in Florida. These two islands were created in the 1920s when the Alafia River was dredged to create a deep water port. For 75 years, we have partnered with Audubon of Florida to manage the islands, which house the largest water bird sanctuary in Florida. During migratory periods, Mosaic hosts dozens of birding groups and other visitors who enjoy observing nearly one hundred species of birds.
In collaboration with the Michigan Works program, Mosaic provided funds to the village of Hersey to turn a partially reclaimed piece of property along the Hersey River into a park the entire community can enjoy. When completed, Mosaic Park will include a gazebo, two pavilions, a canoe landing and restroom facilities.
