The Mosaic Company is the world's leading combined producer and marketer of concentrated phosphate and potash crop nutrients for the global agriculture industry. Through our broad product offering, we are a single source supplier of phosphate- and potash-based crop nutrients and animal feed ingredients. We serve customers in approximately 40 countries. We mine phosphate rock in Florida and process rock into finished phosphate products at facilities in Florida and Louisiana. We mine potash in Saskatchewan, New Mexico and Michigan. We have other production, blending or distribution operations in Australia, Brazil, China, India, Argentina and Chile, and a strategic equity investment in a phosphate rock mine in the Bayovar region in Peru. We operate in the top four nutrient-consuming countries in the world.
We are the largest integrated phosphate producer in the world and one of the largest producers of phosphate-based animal feed ingredients in the United States. We sell phosphate-based crop nutrients and animal feed ingredients throughout North America and internationally. Our Phosphates segment also includes our North American and international distribution activities. Our distribution activities include sales offices, port terminals and warehouses in the United States, Canada and several other key international countries. In addition, the international distribution activities include blending, bagging and production facilities in Brazil, China, India, Argentina and Chile. We accounted for approximately 13% of estimated global production and 58% of estimated North American production of concentrated phosphate crop nutrients during fiscal 2012. Our phosphate crop nutrient products are marketed worldwide to crop nutrient manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
We are the fourth-largest producer of potash in the world. We sell potash throughout North America and internationally, principally as fertilizer, but also for use in industrial applications and, to a lesser degree, as animal feed ingredients. We accounted for approximately 12% of estimated global potash production and 39% of estimated North American potash production during fiscal 2012. We mine and process potash in Canada and the United States and sell potash in North America and internationally.

Our world-class mining and processing operations produce more than 12% of the world's potash and concentrated phosphate crop nutrients. We move these products through the value chain to wholesalers and retailers through our extensive global distribution system. We have key distribution facilities in eight countries, serving wholesalers, retail dealers and individual growers in approximately 40 countries. Mosaic also offers value-added services, such as tools to assist in application rates of crop nutrients and other customized services that increase both crop and economic yields. We have a rich legacy of experience and innovation, producing a line of premium products that offers greater nutrient delivery with lower application rates.

The Mosaic Company has been recognized on Corporate Responsibility Magazine's 12th annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List, known as the world's top corporate responsibility ranking based on publicly available information. Mosaic was ranked 28 — up from 67 in 2011 — in recognition of its conservation and environmental stewardship efforts, as well as its financial and governance transparency.
Mosaic joined only 145 other companies to be recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the 2012 World's Most Ethical Companies (WME). Mosaic was one of only two metals and mining companies based in the U.S. to make the list.
Mosaic received the Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals -- Regina & Area Chapter in Saskatchewan and the Philanthropic Corporation of the Year award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals -- Florida Suncoast Chapter for its community leadership and corporate giving.
In June 2011, our South Fort Meade mine accepted a safety award from the International Society of Mine Safety Professionals for working two years — more than one million man hours — without a lost-time accident.
Mosaic's team in Qinhuangdao, China, earned first place against 150 other companies at a safety knowledge contest hosted by the Qinhuangdao Industrial Association. Participants were tested on their knowledge of safety practices and regulations in the areas of production, fire, environment and health.
