The Mosaic Educa Program Begins in Candeias (BA), Brazil

READING PROGRAM PROMOTES LITERACY
December 19, 2019
Instituto Mosaic (Mosaic Fertilizantes’ foundation) has developed a new initiative to serve the community where we live and work—the Mosaic Educa Program. The goal is to include the practice of reading into the pedagogical plan of the municipality in a playful way, encouraging the ability to appreciate, explore, produce and interpret texts.

The first iteration takes form in the Maria de Lourdes Santos Xavier Reading Room, which opened at the Albertina Dias Coelho School. It will serve 400 students every year and be open to the general public.

Mosaic Educa Program includes habitual reading as part of the school’s education curriculum, and the reading room is designed to be playful and inviting.

Mosaic Educa Program’s launch complements the recent recognition Mosaic Fertilizantes received for their commitment to supporting five of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Starting the program at this school is just phase one, Social Performance Director Paulo Eduardo Batista said. “Depending on the dedication and interest of teachers and coordinators at local schools, in a second phase we plan to support including the project’s concept in their educational plan, thus training all teachers of all public schools in town.”
